This weekend I celebrated my birthday. My (super sweet + wonderful) husband made this one extra special by surprising me with a weekend away in Sydney, which involved a big family lunch at The Grounds of Alexandria, followed by a great night out with all of my friends. Dream. Weekend.
We stayed at the Old Clare in Chippendale which is the most beautiful boutique hotel, if you’re going to Sydney I highly recommend staying here. Every inch of the place is so beautifully styled and considered, it’s just amazing. Again. Dream. Weekend.
Lunch at The Grounds was incredible. We had a private reservation on the patio, with a beautiful long table which was delicately styled with fresh blooms and copper cutlery. Antipasto platters to start, followed by a rustic feast served family style and free flowing prosecco all day meant we were all well fed and I was definitely in my happy place. I also need to talk about the cake. A 5 tiered naked red velvet cake topped with stunning cascading florals. I can’t even tell you how good it was. It was as delicious as it was beautiful. Dream. Lunch. Dream. Cake. Dream. Weekend.
Let me also talk about what I wore, because I actually feel like I nailed it this year. As someone who is born in the middle of Winter, I’ve always been jealous of those with Summer birthdays. It almost always rains on my birthday, and my wardrobe choices are usually based on winter warmth. Though this year I was determined to wear one of my most favourite dresses ever – when I saw this Zimmerman dress I fell in love with it, from the second I saw it I knew I wanted to wear it to my birthday (even before I knew I was doing anything for my birthday, this dress was going to be worn – even if it was just around the house drinking red wine and watching Dawson’s Creek!) I teamed it with my favourite leather jacket, and over the knee suede boots to add a Winter edge. Because after 30 years I figured it’s time to accept my birthday is in June.
Overall I had the best weekend, I am so so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing people. And to be married to the most amazing person of all. You big legend – killed it with the planning. Well done you.
What I wore:
2ndskin Lara leather jacket – you can get it here
Sportsgirl suede over the knee boots – I bought mine a few years ago, but these boots are really similar.
A smile the entire weekend – always the best accessory
Next year has a lot to live up to.
