This was our second time in Vegas, but our first time attending a Vegas wedding. And, our first time driving through the Mojave desert via Joshua Tree National Park. (Hot tip for anyone looking to drive through a desert: fill up with petrol BEFORE you go.) Luckily we’d had a big brunch before we left LA, because it turns out there isn’t much around other than rocks, lizards and joshua trees between LA and Vegas. None of which you can eat, and none of which provide petrol…
Regardless, I’m so glad we did the drive. It’s always amazing seeing places that are so different to home, and the Mojave Desert was definitely one of those places.
We arrived in Vegas, after a near miss with the aforementioned petrol situation, to check into our room at Caesar’s Palace (big shout out to Fiorente on reception who upgraded our room when we checked in). From there we were all about the cocktails, because we were quite dehydrated from the desert obviously. Also. Vegas.
Where to eat? There are SO many good restauarnts in Vegas (if you avoid the buffets and the food courts). We had dinner at the Old Homestead Steakhouse in Caesars – we went there last time we were in Vegas and my husband hasn’t stopped talking about it since. It was just as good the second time around. If you go there, the steak is great (probably a little bit obvious to say) but the Mac & Four Cheese is actually ridiculous. We should have gotten one each in hindsight…
Where to drink? Again, there are a lot of great choices for bars throughout all of the Casinos. We weren’t really there to hit up the night clubs, so we kept it casual at a few of the cocktail bars around Caesars. My favourite cocktail was the Le Fizz at Fizz in Caesars. It wasn’t too overpowering – it was just sweet enough with a lime zest to it. Had my name all over it.
What to do? On our first full day in Vegas we did what every holidaying couple does when visiting Sin City: we went to a neon light museum.
You need to book tickets because they only let you in as a part of a guided tour, and the tour actually sells out sometimes – ours was full! But the boneyard of old lights was so so pretty, it was full of old signage from Vegas – some restored, others waiting for a little love, but all of them with a story and each of them sharing a little piece of Vegas’ history. Our tour guide, Ashley, was awesome – I love when you get a guide who is so genuinely interested in what they are telling you about that you end up being captivated the whole time. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something a little different to do in Vegas, or need some time away from the craziness of the Vegas strip.
The next day was the wedding day, and my husband got all fancied up in his nice new suit while I got to wear this gorgeous Maurie & Eve number…
When I saw this dress on Maurie & Eve’s Instagram page I just couldn’t go past it for this occasion. The off the shoulder strap was what sold it to me, I’m obsessed with everything off the shoulder at the moment. I felt like a million dollars. Pity I didn’t win a million dollars at the Casino afterwards…
We then got to see two of our very dear friends say ‘I do’, so in summary it was a pretty great couple of days.
